Smart Lighting Design: Where Technology Meets Craftsmanship

Lighting isn’t an afterthought—it’s a design tool. At Forest and Arden, we treat smart lighting design as a core part of our millwork and cabinetry. Every reveal, grain, and shadow is enhanced with purpose, not retrofitted as an afterthought.

Integrated Lighting, Planned from the Start

Our process begins early. During prewire, we lay the foundation for layered smart lighting—including uplighting, downlighting, linear accents, and ambient tones. Whether it’s a walnut bar with warm toe-kick LEDs or a white oak kitchen with voice-activated task lighting, we design each element before drywall goes up. This clarity leads to cleaner installs and fewer change orders.

Voice Control Meets Handcrafted Materials

According to a 2023 MDPI study, smart lighting systems that include real-time dimming and voice-responsive controls improve both energy use and user experience. That’s why we specify lighting compatible with Alexa, Control4, or Lutron. Our clients can dim a room or shift its mood with a simple voice command—no remotes or apps required.

Lighting That Becomes Architecture

In cabinetry, lighting becomes structure. We build LED channels into ⅛” reveals, concealing hardware while spotlighting texture and joinery. Our Amish-built cabinets are engineered to support smart lighting without compromise. The result: seamless glow, precise control, timeless form.

Designed, Not Retrofitted

We don’t “add lighting later.” Instead, we design for it. That means custom wiring paths, concealed drivers, and smart compatibility are built into our cabinetry from day one. For builders, this means less rework. For homeowners, it means a space that responds as beautifully as it looks.

At Forest and Arden, smart lighting design isn’t just intelligent—it’s intentional.
